What makes Edgard & Cooper a standout star in the world of dog food and treats?

At first sniff, Edgard & Cooper is a brand that cares deeply about both pet health and planet protection. Known for their thoughtfully made dog and cat food, they offer a wide variety of dry and wet recipes, but it is their sustainability story that really steals the spotlight.

From their ambitious Zero Pawprint Plan, which sets out clear environmental goals such as becoming zero carbon and switching to fully sustainable packaging, to their people and planet focused B Corp status, Edgard & Cooper are clearly serious about making a positive impact.

They also give back through the Edgard & Cooper Foundation, donating one percent of their profits to animal welfare causes across the globe. Add in plant based recipes, a tree planting Loyalty Scheme, and the fact they are one of only five B Corp pet food brands, and it all starts to paint a pretty impressive picture.

And let’s not forget convenience. With food and treats delivered straight to your door, Edgard & Cooper makes sustainable dog food simple, seamless, and stress free.

We love the sound of ethical, easy going dog food, so we decided to put Edgard & Cooper to the test ourselves. This in depth review follows our dog food testing process , taking a close look at safety, nutrition, and, most importantly, how eagerly it was eaten.

Edgard & Cooper : Dog Food & Treats Review

Dry Dog Food Review

The first thing to say is that Edgard & Cooper's dry food receives a solid nutritional rating of 54% – 64% depending on the recipe on the independent nutritional site - All About Dog Food (AADF).

This places them alongside well-respected brands like Wainwrights, James Wellbeloved, Lily's Kitchen, and Harringtons.

Their extensive selection of dry foods covers all the bases. Offering single source meat and fish proteins as well as combinations and plant-based options there's something for everyone and their dog -

🐓 Free-Run Chicken

🐟 Norwegian Salmon

🐑 Grass-Fed Lamb

🦌 🦆 Venison & Free-Run Duck

🐄 🐓 Organic Beef & Free-Range Chicken

🦃 🐓 Organic Free-Range Turkey & Chicken

 🦆🐓 Free-Run Duck & Chicken

🐟 🦃 Atlantic Salmon & Free-Range Turkey

🐓 🐟 Free-Run Chicken & Norwegian Salmon

🥕 Crispy Carrot & Courgette

🎃 Crunchy Beetroot & Pumpkin

❓Confused about free-run vs. free-range❓

Free-run simply means the birds have the freedom to roam within their barn. Free-range birds have access to both the barn and the outdoors, allowing them to enjoy fresh air and sunshine (weather permitting).

We love the addition of two plant-based recipes. These hypoallergenic options are packed with fresh vegetables and a blend of fruit, herbs and pulses.

Clearly plant-based dog foods are a better environmentally friendly choice than meat-based dog foods. But you don't need to go completely veggie.

Why not consider adding a 'meat free' day to your dog's diet ? You'll be adding variety whilst lowering their carbon pawprint !

Whatever recipe you choose, rest assured all Edgard & Cooper recipes are either grain-free or gluten-free, making them a safe choice for dogs with sensitivities.

In terms of pack sizes they offer one of the widest ranges of all the dog foods we've tested and reviewed -

⭐️ 700g (meat based only) regular kibble

⭐️ 1 kg (plant-based only) regular kibble

⭐️ 2.5kg regular kibble

⭐️ 2x 2.5kg regular kibble

⭐️ 7kg regular kibble

⭐️ 2 x7kg regular kibble

⭐️ 12kg large kibble

⭐️ 2 x 12kg large kibble

Edgard & Cooper understands that different dogs have different needs. That's why their largest 12kg bags are available with a larger kibble, ideal for bigger breeds.

And if you're new to the brand, it's always a good idea to start small. We'd recommend grabbing a 700g or 1kg bag to see if it gets the paw of approval before going big. Nobody wants to be left with a huge bag of unwanted dog food!

Wet Dog Food Review

Wet dog food does usually come with a higher price tag than dried, but it remains a firm favourite with dogs and owners alike, and for very good reason.

Tempting taste and tempting texture

With its richer aroma and meatier mouthfeel, wet food is often far more appealing than dry kibble. This can be a real win for fussy feeders, as well as senior dogs whose sense of smell and taste may not be quite as sharp as they once were.

Chewing made simpler

Thanks to its soft, spoonable texture, wet food is much easier to chew and swallow. This makes it especially suitable for puppies and older dogs who may struggle with dental issues.

Hydration help

Wet food has a naturally high moisture content, helping to support your dog’s daily fluid intake. This is particularly useful if you are concerned your dog is not drinking enough water.

So let's take a closer look at Edgard & Cooper's wet range.

testing Edgard & Cooper's wet dog food

Their wet food selection comes in various flavours, textures, and formats so we think it offers more variety for your dog and can make mealtimes more interesting for picky pups.

Nutritionally their wet range boasts an exceptionally high 79% – 90 % on All About Dog Food (AADF) - so right up there at the top of the scale.

They offer two formats - tins and tiny trays (which Edgard & Cooper refer to as cups). It's worth mentioning that the recipes are different and the tins boast a slightly higher meat content.

We’re big fans of the single serve cups for their fuss free portion control and speedy serving. They are particularly perfect for tiny dogs and small stomachs, and they can also help cut down on wasted food.

That said, we think that because of the price point, these cups are best suited to small and toy breeds. Feeding a larger dog, such as a Labrador, entirely on single serve cups would be wildly impractical.

Where they really shine, though, is as tasty toppers. Mixed into your dog’s usual dry food, the tins or cups can lift both the nutritional value and the flavour of the meal, making them especially appealing for picky pups.

There is also plenty of choice when it comes to recipes, with seven tin options and eleven cup varieties available. Edgard & Cooper also offer wet food Variety Packs, which are ideal for fussy eaters and make it easier to discover which flavours your pooch prefers.

Which brings me neatly onto bundles. Edgard & Cooper offer a range of three money-saving bundles which include a selection of dry food, wet food and treats.

The Adult, Puppy and the Hypoallergenic Starter Bundle (shown here) all offer significant savings on buying the products separately.

Shipping's a breeze with free delivery on orders over £20. And once you're hooked, their Subscribe & Save scheme offers 5% OFF.

Dog Treat Review

You could always add something from their delightful array of dog treats to your order. From biscuits and bites to bars and brilliant dental sticks their extensive range has something for every dog.

testing Edagrd & Coopers dog treat range
photograph : smart bark

Perfect for dogs and puppies with sensitive tummies, they're all grain free plus they're formulated with no added artificial flavours, colours or preservatives. So that's the healthy and natural boxes ticked.

We'll fill you in as best we can on how strong they smell, size and texture. You can then judge for yourself which ones suit you and your four-legged friend best.

The first thing to say is that in testing we were pleased to find that none of the Edgard & Cooper treats had a particularly strong smell. While dogs love pungent aromas, we've all experienced those dog treats that are a bit too much for human noses

We particularly liked the Strips, which as the name suggests come in one piece and can be broken into several bite-sized pieces when training.

Soft and crumbly there are 5 in a pack and are available in 4 meaty flavours.

The Bites are the smallest treat and are on the soft side. Whilst perfect for puppy training and small mouths, the downside is that we found they tend to crumble. Available in 6 flavours.

If you're looking for a crunchy treat then the Biscuits will fit the bill. Choose from 5 different flavours in boxes of 130 - perfect for that bedtime treat !

The Bars are larger treats available in 4 flavours. These could be given whole or broken into bite-sized pieces (they have a series of groves to help break them up). However, it's worth mentioning that we found the Apple & Blueberry Bar was simply too tough to break into pieces.

Edgard & Cooper dog dental sticks

Lastly, the Doggy Dental sticks come in a pack of 7 and the star shape allow the teeth to grip easily and get into the smaller spaces between your dog's teeth. There are two flavours available - Apple & Eucalyptus Oil or Mint Oil & Strawberry.

Not wanting to state the obvious, but it's important to choose a chew that is the right size for your dog. Edgard & Cooper offer a range of three sizes 8cm, 12cm and 13cm so you can select the best size for your dog.

Our Verdict

In a market full of dog food brands, Edgard & Cooper truly stands out for its ethical and sustainable approach. But it's not just about their values, their high-quality food and treats are impressive in their own right.

Their dry range has considerably more recipes than a lot of other dog food brands we've tested and we particularly like the idea of being able to add a plant-based dry food into your weekly mix.

Their wet food cups are a standout product for small dogs as they can help with portion control and reduce wastage.

We loved the wide selection of treats and the ease with which they broke into bite-sized pieces for training or alternatively offered whole 'just because'.

With two kibble sizes, three dental stick sizes, two wet food formats, fourteen wet food recipes, and eleven dry food recipes, Edgard & Cooper offers exceptional flexibility for creating a customised diet to suit your dog.
