What you need my friend is a carpet cleaner, they're like vacuum cleaners but on steroids.

They're designed to effectively remove ingrained dirt and grime from carpets by applying a solution of water and detergent. They then use powerful brush heads that penetrate deep into the fibres.

Their stain-removal capability relies on a dual-tank system. A clean tank stores the water and detergent mixture, which is sprayed onto the carpet upon activation. Then, this solution, along with any extracted dirt and debris, is vacuumed into a separate dirty water tank.

Whereas lots of rivals simply offer a standard carpet cleaner, BISSELL takes the design a step further and offers a line of cleaners specifically for us pet lovers.

BISSELL have a fantastic range of carpet cleaners, spot cleaners, and multi-surface tools specifically designed to tackle all that comes with having furry friends – think pet hair, lingering smells, and muddy trails, no matter what kind of floor you have!

They've developed a range of BISSELL detergents to use with their machines (don't try adding washing up liquid!) and their TurboStrength Motor Technology Energy is specifically designed to deliver incredibly powerful suction.

Over the years, I've definitely explored different ways to clean my carpets. I've shelled out for professional services and even rented those big carpet cleaning machines.

But both of those can really hit your wallet, and I've always secretly wanted to have my own machine at home, ready whenever I needed it for a spot clean or a whole carpet clean.

Given BISSELL's reputation for producing some of the top carpet cleaners for home use, I was eager to see if their ProHeat 2x Revolution Pet Pro lived up to the hype.

Easy to assemble, I found the User Guide straightforward and the set up only took 10 minutes. Essentially it involved inserting the main handle, the second carry handle (you'll need a Phillips screwdriver) and the clean water tank.

It's worth mentioning at this stage, that it's big! Measuring over a metre tall, 32cm wide and weighing in at 8.2 kg. I was surprised, it dwarfed our Shark vacuum cleaner, so be aware you might want to give storage some consideration.

This BISSELL cleaner has a really straightforward design. There's a tank up top for your clean water and BISSELL detergent.

The water can be up to 60ºC and as the ProHeat name suggests, their HeatWave Technology® helps maintain this water temperature for a deeper and more hygienic clean.

Then, underneath, there's a separate tank to catch all the yucky dirty water.

Before we got started, we had a choice of cleaning modes, which is pretty handy. The Pet Pro gives you three options:

• Max Clean: For the worst stains. It gets in deep, but you'll need to give it a several hours to dry properly.

• Deep Clean: For grubby carpets or you've got some stubborn stains. Allow a few hours to dry.

• Express Clean Mode: This is great for just keeping things tidy with a regular clean, and the best part is it dries in about half an hour.

  
  

For our first spin, we decided to try out the Express Clean mode. BISSELL suggests you hold the button on the handle to spray the cleaning solution as you pass over the carpet forwards and backwards, then repeat without spraying. Sounds simple enough!

Although it's fairly heavy when the tank is full, you move at a slower pace than with a regular vacuum cleaner so I found it easy to manouvere.

You know what's super satisfying? Actually seeing all the dirt being lifted out of your carpet! The Pro Pet cleaner has a clear base, which is just brilliant because you can literally watch all that grime disappear right before your eyes! It's strangely addictive!

And I thought my carpet was clean! I was absolutely stunned at the dirt extracted from my lounge carpet.

The dirty water tank has a 3.7l capacity, so you can easily Express Clean several rooms or Deep Clean a sizeable room with one tank. If fact you can happily clean up to 40 sqm of carpet on one tank.

The wheels of the cleaner left lines on the carpet so it was super easy to see which parts of the carpet I'd already cleaned. The important thing to remember is that the Express Clean mode doesn't wet the carpet too much so it doesn't necessarily look darker.

I was amazed at the results. In terms of drying time, I was suitably impressed that in about 30 minutes the carpet was dry.

So the Express Clean ticked a lot of boxes, now to tackle the stains and dirtier carpets.

For tough stains, BISSELL have cleverly included a 'Pre-treater button'. Simply press the Clean Shot button with your foot and machine shoots out a spray of cleaning solution.

Leave to soak for 5 minutes before manoeuvring the machine over the stain, extract the moisture then clean as normal.

A word of warning here! As you can probably tell from the photo, the spray comes out very quickly so I'd suggest pumping the button softly rather than standing on it like I did!

The Deep Clean mode really did the trick on those marks and stains! It's worth pointing out that the Deep Clean and Max Clean modes use considerably more of the cleaning solution, and it took a bit longer to dry, about 3 hours for Deep Clean and 8 hours for Max Clean, but that's to be expected.

I also noticed a stronger scent from the cleaning fluid, but it wasn't bad at all – just a fresh, clean smell.

So with the different mode options and the Clean Shot pre-treater button, I found the BISSELL Pet Pro a top all-rounder on the performance front.

But wait, there's more! After you've worked your magic on the carpets, the BISSELL Pet Pro transforms with its hose and a fantastic array of handheld tools which are designed for upholstery and stairs.

You get a clever 3-in-1 Stair Tool that lets you conquer even the tightest corners, a powerful Tough Stain Tool for those stubborn marks, and – the real star for pet lovers – the ingenious 2 in 1 Pet Upholstery Tool.

This innovative attachment has its own mini dirty water tank, so when you're dealing with pet messes like dog urine or poo, you can rest assured that the dirty water won't contaminate the main machine.

I really wish I'd had a Pet Pro when Freddie was a puppy and toilet training was a bit hit and miss.

Okay, so our cream sofa gets a fair bit of attention, especially from Fred rubbing his back along the front edges.

It's pretty straightforward – you connect the hose to the machine base connect your chosen tool, and you're set. To tackle the dirty marks on the sofa, I decided to try out the Tough Stain Tool.

I applied the cleaning spray with two passes and then scrubbed with the integral brushes before suctioning the area with two more passes. I repeated this process a total of three times to really work on the ground in stains.

This technique is called the 'Triple Action - spray, scrub and suction' and the scrub part is crucial to dislodge the ground in dirt.

As you can see from the photo I've cleaned the left seat cushion and the sofa base but not the right ones. The Pet Pro is a miracle worker - look at the difference.

It wasn't long before this amazing machine was being used in the car for mats, seats and the boot.

Honestly, the thought of cleaning these kinds of gadgets has always been a drawback for me. You know what I mean, 30 minutes cleaning your carpet then another 30 minutes cleaning the machine that cleaned your carpets !

However, I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to clean the Pet Pro. Its straightforward design and removable front panel make clearing out any trapped debris a simple task.

Plus, they even include a handy Nozzle Clean Tool to reach into all those tight spots.

Emptying and rinsing the water tanks is also simple, so your Pet Pro is ready to tackle the next problem in 5 minutes.

Which brings me neatly onto my top tips, after testing the BISSELL ProHeat 2x Revolution Pet Pro -

⭐️ Remove the water tanks before carrying the machine upstairs (I know, what was I thinking !)

⭐️ When you've finished cleaning, park the machine on a hard floor before turning it off. Then you can remove the cover to clean the brush and nozzle without dripping water on your perfectly clean carpets

Our Verdict

The BISSELL ProHeat 2x Revolution Pet Pro really does pack a punch. For the price ( on offer at under £200!), I think it's an absolute gem of a carpet cleaner and it's perfect for dog lovers.

I think you'll love how easy it is to use. The three modes Max, Deep and Express are a great idea and coupled with the Pre-treater button mean you have the flexibility to tackle anything. Cleaning is a breeze.

The downsides? Well, it needs to be stored somewhere, and it's not small. It's also quite loud! Is that a problem? I'm not sure but thought I should mention it.

Oh! and one last thing - Beyond their pet-focused cleaning range, BISSELL supports animal welfare through the BISSELL Pet Foundation. They partner with organisations in the US and Europe, including Wood Green Animal Charity in the UK. Now that's the icing on the cake!
