FEATURES TO CONSIDER
The most important thing to consider is what you’ll use it for. Some dog travel bags are designed for long days out hiking in the country or a day at the beach while others zero in on full weekends away.
Then there are outdoor-specific backpacks aimed at hikers and dog lovers who cover some serious miles. There's the option of tote bags or shoulder bags for those who simply want easier access to their dog gear than a traditional rucksack offers.
Ideally whichever bag you choose should have multiple compartments so you can organise your dog gear into sections. Nobody wants their towels, toys and leads smelling of dog food!
In our search for the best dog travel bag, we’ve reviewed and compared options from trusted brands like Mobile Dog Gear and Ruffwear.
These are our picks for the best dog travel bags for everything from long days out to weekends away hiking and everything in between.
OUR PICKS OF THE BEST DOG TRAVEL BAGS
1. Best Dog Travel Bag Overall
Mobile Dog Gear - Weekend Backpack
Mobile Dog Gear, formerly known as Overland Dog Gear, design a whole range of travel bags, so no matter how long you are planning to be away from home, they should have a bag for you and your dog.

This unisex backpack really stands out from the crowd due to its quality design features.

WHAT SHOULD BE IN A DOG TRAVEL BAG?
1. Feature Packed Dog Water Bottle
Regardless of how long your trip is, number one on everyone's list should always be hydration. Nobody wants to share their water bottle with their dog, so to avoid dehydration pack their own water supply.
Obviously, you can simply pack some standard water bottles.
However I’ve found it really helpful if Freddie is able to drink straight from a bottle itself rather than trying to pour it unsuccessfully into his mouth!
There are several dog water bottles available but this one from Petkit has some extra design features.
Not only does it have a large capacity cup, leak proof design and can be used single handed, it also has a filter to purify the water.
Available in several different colours
2. Best Pet Travel Bowl
The Little Dog Laughed
If your dog doesn’t like drinking from a dog water bottle (not all dogs do), then you’ll need something to pour your water into.
This foldable dog bowl by The Little Dog Laughed is a really handy piece of canine kit.
Designed with a square base and a circular top, it's incredibly sturdy.
Other bowls on the market such as the silicone collapsible design, definitely aren't designed to be as sturdy, so you run the risk of your dog constantly tipping over the full bowl of water which isn’t ideal!
The drawstring top is a clever design addition turning the bowl into a bag. Pop your food in the bag and, voila!, it opens into a dog bowl.
We were really impressed in testing as it's completely waterproof so can be used equally for dog food and water.
It opens out into a sizeable bowl so would be suitable for large breed dogs.
It's a really handy bit of kit, excellent quality and folds up so you can pop it in your backpack or a large pocket.
Available in a range of three bright colours - pink, orange and blue.
We think that the Little Dog Laughed pet travel bowl is the perfect piece of kit for any day out.
3. Best Dog Treat Pouch for most Buyers
Kurgo Go Stuff It
Treats are not only great for rewards, they can be the perfect distraction when you’re trying to attract your dog’s attention away from something.
However, the last thing you need are warm, smelly dog treats in your pocket all day.
These bright and fun dog treat bags from Kurgo are available in blue or red.
They have a wide mouth opening so you can reach your treats quickly and a drawstring closure to keep those treats fresh.
The treat bag has an adjustable strap with two strong plastic clips, enabling you to clip it to your belt for playtime in the park.
It also features a drawstring closure and an extra zip-pocket.
We recommend Kurgo's Go Stuff It if you're looking for a well designed treat bag that'll stand up to everyday use.

4. Best Dog Poo Bags
Beco Compostable Poop Bags
Scoop the Poop…. Of course! But not all poo bags are created equal.
If you’re looking for an environmentally friendly option then Beco compostable poop bags fit the bill.
Beco are renowned for their sustainable product range which as well as being good for your dog is also great for the planet.
We bought and tested this pack of 8 rolls (96 bags) of their compostable bags.
Ultimately, the testers commented that Beco's compostable bags were thick, strong and odour proof so did the job well. They are also easy to separate with 'Tear Here' printed on each bag.
Beco's compostable range also includes packs of 48 (4 rolls) and 60 (5 rolls) and a box of 96 flat-packed bags with handles. We love that these eco-friendly compostable bags are available in really small quantities so you could try before you commit to buying lots.
Additionally you can purchase the Beco Pocket - poop bag dispenser which also has great eco-friendly credentials and we feature in our round-up of the best dog poo bag dispensers.
Just a word of caution, their non-compostable and compostable packaging looks very similar, so double-check it says compostable on the front.

5. Best Travel Dog Towel
Even if you don’t expect your four-legged friend to get dirty, they always seem to be drawn to large expanses of muddy water.
A dog towel is not only perfect at rubbing them down, but can be useful at wiping your own arms, faces and clothes after the inevitable ‘shake’!
Henry Wag have a whole range of dog drying gloves and towels.
Their microfibre Pet Towel is ideal for day trips as it absorbs more water and dries quicker than a regular towel.
Microfibre towels are also better then standard towels at picking up and holding onto dirt and dust, and even bacteria.
6. Best Cooling Dog Towel
Dogs can get really hot during the summer months especially as they enjoy tearing around unlike us, our canine friends don't have sweat glands so have a harder time cooling themselves down.
If it looks like it’s going to be a warm day, a cooling towel can help regulate your dogs temperature.
Simply soak the towel in cold water and wring out any excess water before placing over your pet.
Cheap and light to carry in your dog bag, they’ll give you peace of mind on a hot day.
We recommend this towel from Cool Pup as it's very durable having seen off a couple of summers and lived to tell the tale.
